Poznań is among the oldest cities in the country, and was one of the most important centres in the early Polish state, whose first rulers were buried at Poznań cathedral. It is sometimes claimed to be the first capital of the kingdom of Poland.

 

Today Poznań is a dynamic and ever-expanding centre of learning with many students living in the city. You can explore the city endlessly finding something exciting and interesting on every corner. Magnificent buildings with colorful façades aged centuries ago are present in the whole old town. Poznań has many historic buildings and sights, mostly concentrated around the Old Town and other parts of the city centre. Many of these lie on the Royal-Imperial Route – a tourist walk leading through the most important parts of the city showing its history, culture and identity.
